How Does Popcorn Pop?

Popcorn pops because the microwave energy excites the moisture inside the popcorn kernel causing it to change from a liquid to a gas. The expansion of this gas (steam) expands inside the kernel forcing it to erupt. If a kernel cracks during packaging or transportation the moisture in it will dry up. No moisture = no steam = unpopped kernels.

Burned Popcorn Smels
Place balls of newspaper in your microwave to absorb that burned popcorn odor. The bigger the balls the better!

DO NOT turn the microwave on with paper in it as this will cause an even more disgusting odor when the inside of your microwave catches on FIRE!

Dirty Stinking Disposal
Put about a cup of ice in your disposal and place an upside down plate over the opening to prevent a piece of ice from flying out. Turn it on and the ice will scrub the inside of the disposal. No the ice will not "dull" the blades. There are no blades in a disposal just blunt slingers.

Freezer Sides / Top Gets Hot
Freezer manufacturers put the condenser tubing inside the walls of upright and chest freezers to prevent the ambient humidity from condensing on the outside of the freezer. Therefore it is normal for the top and sides of freezers to be hot. Keeping the top and side walls of your freezer clear will extend it’s life and reduce energy consumption.
