Refrigerator Odor Removal

Newspaper works best at snaring those invisible stinky molecules that float around your refrigerator. Just take a section of newspaper and put in your freezer section. Change it once a week and your refrigerator will be fresh as new. If you need to store something especially smelly like fish just put some newspaper on top of that container for extra odor absorption. Unless you have a built in refrigerator you only need to put the newspaper in the freezer since 100% of the air circulates in the freezer while approximately 20% of the air circulates through the refrigerator section.

Freezer sides / top gets hot
Freezer manufacturers put the condenser tubing inside the walls of upright and chest freezers to prevent the ambient humidity from condensing on the outside of the freezer. Therefore it is normal for the top and sides of freezers to be hot. Keeping the top and side walls of your freezer clear will extend it’s life and reduce energy consumption.

Keep your freezer full
If you can’t keep your freezer full, fill plastic milk containers with water leaving room at the top for expansion. This creates a thermal mass that will help maintain freezer temperature, lower your electric bill and prolong the life of your refrigerator or freezer.

What is freezer burn and how can something burn in a freezer?
It’s the fundamental physics of sublimation. Water evaporates at all temperatures even from what appears to be a solid. That’s why ice cubes shrink in your freezer and in fact will eventually disappear. When the constantly oscillating moisture molecules in the meats and vegetables stored in your freezer migrate to the surface crystals of ice are formed. Even if the package has never been opened.
